| FROM THE EAST The Chisel, The Skirret and The Pencil Do you know about these three Working Tools and which Degree they belong to? A new Mason is continually filled with a preponderance of Triads. There are three Degrees, three Principal Officers, the three Great Lights, three Lesser Lights, etc. Why then do we only have two working tools in the Entered Apprentice Degree and one in the Master Mason Degree? Well that is not totally true, It is only in most US jurisdictions that this is true. If you go back to the Grand Lodge of England there are three working tools in all three degrees. The are: · First Degree – 24” Gauge, Common Gavel and the Skirret · Fellowcraft Degree – Plumb, Square, and the Level (No Change here) · Master Mason – Towel and added are the Pencil and Compass Take some time to research this and see if you can find their meanings and how they relate to Masonry. I will explain more on these items next time – Stand by. We had a very good First Degree at the last stated meeting and I wish to thank the five Brothers from Daylight for the excellent work done in presenting our new brother with the Lecture. We are also planning on another First Degree at the December Stated and anticipate also receiving a petition for the degrees. Membership is on the rise. If you can, please come and join our new brothers in lodge. Fraternally, VW Michael J. Davis Master FROM THE WEST I am honored to serve you all from the West and look forward to an exciting Masonic year. We had a solid turn out at Lodge in November with Brothers both from Queen Anne and many other from neighboring Lodges; the word is getting out that Queen Anne is a good place to be. Queen Anne continues to grow with new petitions being read in each stated meeting. As a group we are concentrating on improving ourselves in Masonry, more especially in the Work. Bro. Secretary & Treasurer Eric Vogt has been helping us all to focus on good Ritual and Floor Work and WB\Mike Davis is keeping a close watch on all of us new to the Fraternity to make sure we understand the importance of precise Work. We need more of you, who know the Work to keep us going and encourage good Work to be done, please come to our next stated on December 11th where it looks like we’ll have at least a posting lecture if not a Second Degree! Our community outreach is still focused on keeping youngsters happy and healthy with athletic endeavors. In the Fall of 2007 we sponsored the Seattle Interbay American Football Club with a donation of a special football for every player (it has the Club's logo and the Masonic Square & Compasses along with 'sponsored by Queen Anne Lodge #242' on them); in the spring of 2008 we sponsored the Magnolia Little League by purchasing game day baseballs for the AAA and Majors divisions with the Masonic Square & Compasses on them as well as 'Magnolia Little League 2008" and "Queen Anne Lodge #242" on them. This 2009 winter season we are sponsoring basketballs for the Queen Anne Community Center in Queen Anne’s traditional burgundy and orange colors also with the Square & Compasses and 'Sponsored by Queen Anne Lodge #242" on them... We have Footballs and Baseballs at the Lodge and will have Basketballs in time for the January stated... in the meantime we're looking for an appropriate wall unit that can act as a bookshelf/display case for these items and the photographs that go along with them. If anyone has a lead on where we can find one that will fit appropriately in the space and décor of our foyer please let me know ASAP... Please come to Lodge next stated, break some bread with us, share in the Brotherhood and help us improve ourselves in Masonry. Fraternally, Bro. Ken Cavallon SW\ | FROM THE SOUTH Sounds from the South Here it is November and I have barely finished my chores for August. Oh well there is always next year. Speaking of next year and the upcoming Masonic Installation season, my calendar is rapidly filling up with installation dates. Looks like December is going to be a busy one. I hope to see many of you at the installations throughout the area. Our last meeting was great one. With the initiation of our newest apprentice and several other visitors expressing an interest in the lodge, we will continue to grow and prosper. I really enjoyed my conversations with Dan Newton, who was looking rather spry after his recent trip to the hospital. Dan was his old self as he really enjoyed the meeting. We hope to see him in lodge on a regular basis. We encourage all members to strive to make at least one meeting this Masonic year, we will save you a seat for you! Fraternally, WB Greg Mathers Jr. Warden. FROM THE DESK OF THE SECRETARY Don't forget your 2009 dues are due! Some clarifications: If you are a 50-year member, we passed a resolution to exempt you from dues, including even the Grand Lodge assessment of $12. However, if you are a Life Member, you still owe that $12 assessement. All other members must pay $137 yearly, due by Dec. 31 each year. New members, who have joined this fall and paid the initiation fee, also need to be current. I will be speaking with each of the new members myself, since they are showing up enthusiastically and are working to prove up. Please be sure to pay your dues and keep me informed of changes in your contact information. Beyond that, we would like to see you in lodge if you can make it. Queen Anne is on a comeback trail. Fraternally, WB Eric Vogt Secretary
